Frequently asked questions about car rental with Viajemos

01. What are the rental requirements when picking up the rental?
  • Deposit guarantee: A deposit will be required as a guarantee at the time of pick up. The corresponding amount will be determined by the rental company and will be retained on the credit card registered at the counter.
  • Driver’s license: You must provide a valid driver’s license (Latin Alphabet) issued in your country of residence. If your driver’s license is not in Latin Alphabet, you will be required to provide an international driver’s license along with your driver’s license. An international driver’s license may be mandatory in some areas of the USA. Please verify this information with the corresponding entity before travelling.
  • Credit card: The reservation holder must have a valid credit card under his/her name. The credit card holder's name must be printed on the card and it must count with sufficient funds to cover the deposit guarantee. The following credit cards are accepted: Visa, MasterCard, Diners, American Express and/or Discover.
  • Minimum age: The main driver must be at least 25 years old.
  • Roundtrip airline and/or cruise tickets.
  • Valid Passport.
02. What is the deposit amount required by the rental Company?

The deposit amount may vary depending on the season, itinerary, and car category. This amount will be confirmed by the rental company at the time of pick up. The reservation holder must have a valid credit card under his/her name. The credit card holder's name must be printed on the card and it must count with sufficient funds to cover the deposit guarantee.

The deposit on the credit card will be released upon the return of the car. However, the funds may take up to 15 business days before they can be reflected on the account.

03. Is the car rental insurance and third party liability a requirement for my rental?

Car Rental Insurance is a requirement to transit within the USA. Therefore, it will be mandatory and requested by all rental companies.

Third Party Liability insurance is highly recommended as it may be required in some states where driven.

02. Is there an extra fee for modifying my reservation?

Viajemos does not charge extra fees for modifying your reservation. However, please note that the rate may increase depending on the requested changes. Any rate increments will be charged by the customer service agent when processing the modification request.

01. What is the cancellation policy?

A cancellation fee of 20% over the prepaid value will apply. Some rental companies manage different cancellation policies such as:

Sixt:

  • • If you cancel your booking with an anticipation of more than 48 hours prior to the pick-up time registered on your reservation, a penalty of 20% will be applied over the prepaid value.
  • • A penalty of USD 100.00 will be applied over the prepaid value if the booking is cancelled or modified within 48 hours or less prior to the pick-up time registered on the reservation. If the prepaid value is less than USD 100.00, a refund will not be granted.
  • • If the booking is not used or if the rental requirements are not met at the counter, a penalty of 100% over the prepaid value will be applied.

Alamo, National and Enterprise: A penalty of 100% will be applied over the prepaid value in case the reservation is not used or, in case the rental requirements are not met at the counter.

02. What payment methods does Viajemos accept?

You may pay for your reservation through our website with any of the following options:

  • Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Diners, American Express, y/o Discover).
  • Debit card with a Visa or MasterCard logo.
  • PayPal
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay

Please note that you may pay for your reservation with Viajemos using a friend’s, relative’s, or company credit card.

Important: Remember that as a requirement, the reservation holder must present a credit card under his/her name at the time of rental. The credit card holder's name must be printed on the card.

03. May I use a friend’s or relative’s credit card for the deposit guarantee?

The credit card must be under the reservation holder’s name. Therefore, a friend’s or relative’s credit card may not be used for this purpose.

04. What inclusions can I get on my reservation?

Depending on the rate, you will have the option to include Car Rental Coverage, Third Party Liability, Tank of Gas, GPS, and/or Additional Driver. These options are subject to availability. Once you have chosen your itinerary, car and any additional services, the rate details will specify all the inclusions according to your selection.

07. Are all taxes and fees included in my reservation?

Your reservation includes all taxes and fees. Please keep in mind that some taxes and fees must be paid directly at the counter.

10. Do all rental companies offer a shuttle service?

Not all rental companies offer a shuttle service. Please contact our Customer Service Department to verify if this service is available at your location.

11. Is it cheaper to book online or through your customer service department?

By booking through our website you will be able to enjoy the best rates and discounts available on the market.

12. Is it cheaper to add the insurance while booking on the website or directly at the counter?

We recommend for you to include the insurance while booking as insurance costs can be up to three times more expensive directly at the counter.

01. How can I avoid the underage fee for drivers under 25 years?

When booking with our Avis or Budget brand, drivers between the ages 21- 24 do not pay an underage fee. The reservation must be paid in advance and include car rental insurance and third party liability. This benefit applies only to Economy, Compact, Standard, Mid-Size, Full-Size, and Mid-Size SUV categories.

02. How can I include the electronic toll pass system and how much does it cost?

The electronic toll pass system is not included in any of our rates. This service can be requested directly at the counter and its cost will be informed at the time of pick up.

03. Can I modify my reservation once the rental is in use?

Once you’ve signed the contract and the rental is in use, you will not be able to modify your reservation through Viajemos. Any modification desired must be requested directly with the rental Company.

04. Can I rent the car at one location and return it at another?

You may return the car at a different location as long as our website provides availability while searching your itinerary. This service may incur an additional cost which value you will be able to confirm before finalizing your booking. In most cases, the amount of this service must be paid at destination.

05. Is the car rental insurance and third party liability a requirement for my rental?

Car Rental Insurance is a requirement to transit within the USA. Therefore, it will be mandatory and requested by all rental companies.

Third Party Liability insurance is highly recommended as it may be required in some states where driven.

07. How can I add an infant seat on my reservation?

None of our rates include this service. You may request an infant seat for an additional cost directly at the counter at the time of pick up.

08. How does the travel insurance policy work?

The Travel Insurance Policy is a service offered by Viajemos through a third party company. This coverage offers benefits such as:

  • Medical Assistance for Accident.
  • Cancellation Coverage
  • Compensation for Luggage Lost by Airline.
  • Prescription Medications.
  • Delayed Flight Expenses.
  • Legal Assistance in case of a Traffic Accident.
  • Life Insurance in case of Accident.

IMPORTANT: In case you need to use your travel insurance policy due to any inconvenience or accident, please contact the insurance company directly. The main contact  and detailed insurance information will be emailed to you once the booking is completed.

09. What should I do In case I receive additional toll charges?

Since this is not a service offered by Viajemos, the reservation holder must contact the rental company directly in order to resolve any queries regarding this issue. Keep in mind that the rental company will charge any fines plus administrative fees to the credit card registered on file.

10. How can I avoid additional charges on my reservation?

In order to avoid additional charges when picking up your rental, make sure to read the rental agreement thoroughly before signing. The rental conditions must match to those reserved through our website.

11. What happens if I return the car late?

Returning the car late will result in additional fees. If you need to return the car at a later time, please contact the pick up rental location. The contact number can be found on the copy of the rental agreement provided at the beginning of the rental.

12. How do the insurance policies offered through Viajemos work?

In case of an accident or inconvenience during the rental, the reservation holder must contact the rental company directly and place a report. The rental company will make effective any policies included on the reservation.

13. What benefits are included in the insurance policies offered by Viajemos?
  • Car Rental Insurance: This mandatory policy covers liability for any damages occurred to the rental car as long as these are not a consequence of improper use of the car. You may include this coverage on your reservation through our website at a discounted rate.
  • Third Party Liability Insurance: Viajemos recommends you to acquire this coverage which offers third party liability protection in case of injuries or damages caused by the rental car. You may include this coverage on your reservation through our website at a discounted rate.
14. What is the fuel policy on the rental?

If your reservation includes the tank of gas, you may return the rental car without refueling.

If your reservation does not include the tank of gas, you will have to refuel and return the rental car with a full tank of gas or with the same amount of gas as it was at the beginning of the rental. Keep in mind that some rental companies require that the car be refueled at a gas station close to the drop off location and will request a receipt as evidence.

15. How does the roadside assistance coverage included in Viajemos rates work?

In case of a mechanical malfunction with the rental car, you must contact the rental company directly in order to request prompt assistance. Keep in mind that some rental companies include basic roadside assistance, while others offer a more comprehensive coverage.

16. Can I include more than one additional driver on my reservation?

Yes, you may include more than one additional driver on your reservation. Some rental companies give you this option. All additional drivers will have to be present at the time of pick up and meet the same rental requirements as the main driver.

17. May I transfer my discount coupon to a friend or relative?

Yes, you may transfer your discount coupon to a friend or relative. However, the reservation will have to be completed using the same email address registered in our system.

18. How can I confirm my reservation?

19. Why is the daily rate in my final quote higher compared to the rate provided in the availability search results?

Keep in mind that the initial rate displayed on the availability page corresponds to the base rate only. Once you get to the final quote section, the rate will include all taxes, charges, and fees.

20. Can I rent a car for a period longer than 30 days?

Yes, some rental companies will allow you to rent a car for over 30 days. When searching your itinerary on our website, the system will provide the results to match your search criteria.

21. Are there restrictions on driving the rental car into a different country and/or state?

Most rental companies will allow you to drive the rental car through different states and even cross the border into Canada. The rental car may not be driven into Mexico. Should you need to drive the rental car outside of the state where rented, we recommend you to inform the rental location at the time of pick up in order to avoid any inconveniences.

22. What procedure should I follow in case I am involved in a traffic accident with the rental car?

In case you are involved in a traffic accident with the rental, you must contact the emergency line immediately. In addition, you must contact the rental company directly in order to process a full report. The rental location’s telephone number will be found on the copy of the rental agreement received at the time of pick up.

23. If I am the only registered driver on the rental agreement, can someone else drive the rental car?

Only drivers registered on the rental agreement may drive the rental car. You have the option to include additional drivers on the agreement for an additional fee, unless you reserved an “All Inclusive” rate that includes this benefit. All additional drivers will have to be present at the time of pick up and meet the same rental requirements as the main driver.

24. Are there any restrictions on the rental car?

Yes, cars rented through Viajemos must not be used for towing, providing public transportation or performing any activities that violate the rental agreement. Any restrictions on car use will be explained when signing the rental agreement.
